Correctional administrators reported 8,763 allegations of sexual victimization in prisons, jails and other adult correctional facilities in 2011, a statistically significant increase over the number of allegations reported in 2009 (7,855) and 2010 (8,404) (Source: Bureau of Justice Statistics – January 2014).

1 in 2.3 inmates returns to prison within 3 years of release (Pew Center on the States, 2012).

Nationally, 1 out of 14 state dollars is spent on corrections while only 1 in 9 state dollars is spent on community supervision (Pew Center on the States, 2012)

Each year, nearly 3,000 inmates are released from the Suffolk County House of Corrections, and over 95% of those inmates return to neighborhoods within a five-mile radius of the facility (Massachusetts Suffolk County Sheriff's Department).

5-10% of women entering prison are pregnant (Women’s Prison Association, 2009).
