Colby Dawley joined CJI in December of 2010 and her work has focused primarily on CJI’s Justice Reinvestment Initiative project which provides technical assistance to states in reforming their criminal justice system to make them more effective at reducing recidivism and improving public safety. Her work on the Justice Reinvestment Initiative involves leading a team that conducts comprehensive statutory reviews and qualitative analyses of a state’s criminal justice system to identify gaps, inform policy recommendations, and assist with the drafting, passage, and implementation of legislative reforms. Prior to joining CJI, Colby worked for a number of criminal defense attorneys where she gained a thorough understanding of the complexities of the criminal justice system and developed her passion for conducting legal research on federal and state criminal laws. Colby is committed to assisting states in the development and implementation of criminal justice reform efforts that align with the research on what works to reduce recidivism and increase public safety and improve outcomes for offenders. Colby holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of New Hampshire and a Master of Science in Crime and Justice Studies from Suffolk University.
