National Corrections Research Network Meetings

CJI facilitates and supports a series of the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) National Corrections Research Network meetings. The results of these meetings will be used to provide recommendations for a national research agenda. Through this project CJI is able to strengthen our commitment to bridging the gap between research and practice. These meetings are vital to further the work of the corrections field in its understanding and application of research. The meetings include:

  • Two Institutional Corrections Research Network (ICRN) Meetings in conjunction with the Bureau of Justice, National Corrections Reporting Program meeting;
  • One meeting to review and revise a research agenda for jails; and
  • One meeting on common research issues confronting prisons, jails, and community corrections.

Throughout these meetings, CJI gathers input from correctional researchers and practitioners and supports the corrections research community of practice. CJI creates meeting websites to store and share valuable information; commissions white papers on important topics in corrections; and compiles key themes to guide the research agenda. Through this work CJI and NIC are able to support correctional agencies as they work to become more evidence-based, make greater use of outcome measures and performance standards, and incorporate data-driven approaches in their organizational development.
