Once a state passes a criminal justice reform bill, the hard work of actually implementing those reforms begins. CJI is working with four states -- Mississippi, Utah, Maryland and Alaska -- that are in the process of implementing reforms passed through the Justice Reinvestment Initiative, which focuses on reducing recidivism, saving money on corrections and reinvesting it in strategies to improve public safety.
